Introduction
Selling on Amazon can be complicated. You need to be all over the details of your business, and whether that is coordinating FBA shipments, expanding keyword sets, or writing a POA there is always something to monitor within your account.
However, sadly, that is not where the work ends — you also need to understand the dynamics of your category and identify the trends that are really making an impact for the best sellers in your market. How do you find this info —that is where Helium 10 comes into play! Helium 10 is one of the most well know and respected Amazon tools on the market, and without question my go to source for competitive intelligence. Throughout the rest of this post I am going to walk you through some of the most common and well known Helium 10 features.
Why Should I Choose Helium 10?
Helium 10 breaks their tool kit into seven distinct categories across product research, listing optimization, analytics keyword research and more. Each category has multiple tools to help sellers continue to improve their business. As we work through Helium 10, I am going to walk you through the tools that I use most frequently to manage and run a business.
Product Research
Helium 10’s product research module is focused on helping seller identify new opportunities across Amazon’s platform. While you should check out all of the tools within the Product Research section, the tool that I most use is “Black Box”, which is very similar to Jungle Scout’s Opportunity Finder.
Both tools are designed to help you identify trending niches where you can come in and find quick success. Black Box allows you to search by reminding product attributions, analyzing keywords, competitors or niches to determine if there is an opportunity for you to enter the market.
Listing Optimization
There are a number of offerings from Helium 10 that can help you to improve the quality of your listings, but the two that I use most frequently are Frankenstein Keyword Processor and Scribbles Listing Optimizer.
Frankenstein enables you to take “a huge list of keywords (even thousands) and transform it into a more manageable group to use in your Amazon listing optimization efforts”1. Why is this valuable? Amazon is built off of keywords and sellers live and die by their organic rankings and PPC bidding.
We all do the best that we can with keyword research but we can never be sure that we are explicitly focusing on the right keywords. Frankenstein enables you to upload a list of keywords (from KW research, ppc campaigns, etc.) and will return you with a de-duplicated list that enables you to focus on more unique keywords to drive more traffic to your listings.
In the example below, I pulled the most common keywords from brand analytics for the term ‘collagen’ which left me with >5K words. After after using Frankenstein this number dropped by 87% to 657 total keywords, a much more manageable number!
The other tool that I frequently use within listing optimization is Scribble. Scribble has been designed to help sellers ensure they are getting the right keywords into your product content. We are going to continue with a collagen example to show how Scribble works in practice.
As I start to build out a title and enter my target keywords, Scribble will remove the words and phrases from my list by adding a strike through to the impacted keywords. This small steps helps to ensure that you are maximize your keyword space and will help to minimize keyword repetition within your listing2.
Keyword Research
When it comes to keyword research, Helium 10’s Cerebro is the best product on the market. Cerebro is Helium 10’s reverse ASIN search tool that identifies the most effective keywords to build into your product listings and PPC campaigns.
Not only does Cerebro give you all of the keywords that are driving traffic to your competitors listings, but you are able to filter and refine the search via attributes such as word count, search volume, organic or sponsored rank and search volume trend.
Once you have your filters set, you will then be able to sort your curated keyword list by any number of metrics including search volume, competing products, title density and CRP3. Cerebro is my *most used* feature within Helium 10 by a fairly wide margin.
Analytics
The analytics section of Helium 10 is where you are able to build out keyword tracking to monitor your organic rankings over time4. This functionality is critical for sellers to understand why they are experiencing changes in sales or traffic. Not only does this product show your performance, but it tracks your changes over time to give you some context to how you have been trending and performing over time.
The reason this data is so critical is because it helps to explains some of the black box of Amazon. Were you selling 30 bottles a day and that number doubled over night? Maybe you rankings improved in a big way! Did traffic dramatically fall out of nowhere — your listing may have fallen from the top organic row and while this does not prove any causal relationships it does help you get much closer to the truth!
Conclusion
If you are looking for a tool to help manage and grow your Amazon business you would be hard pressed to find a better alternative than Helium 10. Their pricing is very reasonable (typically less than $200 a month) and can create enormous value.

Keyword density does not impact your organic rankings
CPR is the number of units you need to give away (or sell) over an 8 day period to rank on the first half of page 1 for a target keyword.
Helium10 will provide historical organic ranking including time before you set up the ASIN / keyword combination.
